Unfortunately, there are a ton of cutesy Christian memes that will have you ABSOLUTELY jacked up in your journey to understanding the character of your Heavenly Father!
Don’t get me wrong, I do believe some people who create those memes have good intentions. However, there isn’t much sound doctrine and theology behind it. Plus, good intentions don’t always equal God’s results. A person can have good intentions to gain some money to help their family put food on the table for the kids each night, but use the means of robbing a bank to accomplish that purpose. Good intentions-yes, God result-no.
So let me give you an example. Please understand my heart. My goal isn’t to point the finger. Rather my heart is to caution you to be careful of what you are feeding yourself if it isn’t Biblically sound.
#LEGGO!
There’s a meme floating out there that says, “The teacher is always silent during the test.” Some Christians take this meme and apply it to their lives when they are going through hard times. They say things like, “My life is just going down the drain. Bad stuff keeps happening, and I feel like God is testing me. I feel like God isn’t answering my prayers because the teacher is always silent during the test.”
So let’s break this down. As a former classroom teacher, I don’t negate this meme at all from a “HUMAN” perspective. When my kids had to take any type of assessment, yes, I was always quiet. However, let me ask you a question- Is God a HUMAN? If you’re struggling to answer that question- let’s look in the Word:
NUMBERS 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
and another:
Isaiah 55: 8-9 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
one more for good measure:
Psalm 8:3-4 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?
Ok, are we all clear so far? Can we all conclude that since God is NOT a human, we cannot necessarily attribute human characteristics to a HOLY, OMNISCIENT, OMNIPOTENT, OMNIPRESENT God?
Ok, so let’s move on. God does NOT test His children in the sense of harm. This would need to be a much longer post for me to explain this one, but the short answer is here:
James 1:13 No one undergoing a trial should say, “I am being tempted by God,” since God is not tempted by evil, and he himself doesn’t tempt anyone.
If you look up the Greek word “tempt” in this Scripture it holds the meaning:
[trial, probation, testing, being tried, temptation, calamity, affliction]
Hopefully, we’re all still on the same page. Last part-hold tight. We’re almost there. When has Our Heavenly Father EVER denied to help His kids?? Let’s take a look:
Psalm 46:1-3 – “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.”
Hebrews 4:14-16 – “Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathise with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Psalm 91:14-16 “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name. When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honour him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
Psalm 18:6-19 “In my distress I called upon the Lord; to my God I cried for help. From His temple he heard my voice, and my cry to Him reached His ears…………He brought me out into a broad place; He rescued me, because He delighted in me.”
Do you see the pattern yet? To add lil mo’ fuel to the situation-Did you know one of God’s names-Jehova Ezer literally means………. the Lord is my help??? So tell me again where in Scripture it says, “The teacher is silent during the test??” *crickets
So what can we conclude? This meme is Biblically incorrect. This meme will also have you real messed up in your spiritual walk. Like messed up, messed up! Lol. The moral of this post is you should be in your Word so that you are not eating food that was never designed for you to eat. Otherwise, you’ll end up with a toxic and dysfunctional relationship with your Abba Father all on the basis of some cutesy IG meme. #done
In love,
His Daughter
