2019: How I Forecast My New Year

Proverbs 29:18 makes it clear: “Where there is no vision, the people perish; but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”

I start off the first month of each year really clarifying my vision. I mean I go ALL the way in, articulating my BIGGEST dreams and desires. The method may vary, but the point is you get it all out on paper. Habakkuk 2:2 says, “And the LORD answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.”

The key to this entire process is that you are SPECIFIC about what you desire, yet you are FLEXIBLE with the overall plan. It seems like a contradiction, but I assure you it isn’t. Hold up now! Before you go calling me a hypocrite, hear me out. It’s important that you are specific because Your Heavenly Father wants you to articulate the desires of your heart. He loves when you tell Him what you want, although He already knows. *wink

Secondly, it’s crucial that you are flexible because there is a margin of error involved. Our Father knows ALL the plans He has for us. He is omniscient and therefore can foresee how all things will work out for our good. Check out these two scriptures.

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

and

Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

What I’m saying is you must leave space for His divine interventions and “interruptions.” Although they actually aren’t interruptions. You aren’t privy to all that He knows, so be receptive to Him changing your course at any moment. For example, I hadn’t planned on writing a book, starting a clothing line, or starting a hair care line this year and all three happened! #wahlah! Instead of pulling out my 2018 Forecast and giving Hin mt best neck roll (#saucy), I simply humbled myself before Him and was obedient to what He told me to do.

Isaiah 55: 8-9

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Let’s get to the meat and potatoes of this thang! Here’s what I do each year.

  • First, in a notebook, I write “My 2019 Vision.”
  • Second, I list subtopics and leave space beside each of them to fill out. My subtopics include:

-My ideal geographic location (where do I want to live)

-Career/Purpose

-Family

-Side Hustles

-Finances

-Friendships

-Health

-Spirituality

-Joy

-Soul Care

Once I have all of my subtopics written, I begin to write my vision for each area of my life. Think: In a perfect world, what would I like each area of my life to look like? If money and time weren’t factors what would my life look like in each area?

Take your time and pray about this. Think about what you truly desire and what would bring the biggest Kool-Aid grin to your face. Then write it all out. Pray over it and ask Our Heavenly Father to lead you accordingly.

Did I leave any important areas out? Share them in the comments. I hope this helps you have a more productive year! Do you plan on giving my forecasting framework a try? Tell me in the comments!

Cheers to a prosperous new year!
