In the infamous rhymes of Will Smith, “Summer, summer, summertime. Time to sit back and unwind.” Yup! It’s that time. Am I the only one who thinks about refreshing drinks in scorching hot above one-hundred degree temps??? You betta get yours, because imma get mine! LOL
In 1 Corinthian 6:19-20, Our Father says, ” 19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”
There are many ways to apply this scripture, but the angle that I’m going to take is your food and drink intake. What you decide to nourish your body with can either honor your temple, or dishonor it if it causes you harm. The quality of our lives, our ability to carry out our purposes, our capacity to serve others, and the degree in which we are able to share our gifts with the world, depends on the quality of food and drink we consume. No, this isn’t the end all and be all, however, it does make a substantial impact on the quality of “abundant” life you are able to experience while on the Earth.
As His daughters, we want to make sure we are doing our part to maintain optimal health so that we can give birth to beautiful babies, take care of them well, be excellent wives, perform phenomenally in our careers, play with our nieces and nephews, serve others, contribute to our church ministries, be great aunties, sisters, friends, granddaughters, daughters, and the list goes on. If you are constantly consuming beverages that are not “nourishing” you, you run the risk of hindering all of those things I just mentioned above.
To put this plainly, (make it clear gurl) I’ve decided to hook you up with 2 drinks I’ve been using to kickstart this season off something proper like (old skool-isms). I typically don’t measure a single thing when I cook (blame the country gal in me), so bear with me as I get measurements in the coming weeks. Trust me, taste as you go and you’ll be fine. *wink
The first drink is a: Carrot Lemonade! Now don’t be afraid to try something new and don’t let the name fool ya! It is de-li-cious and it packs a ton of health benefits!! I start off by juicing enough carrots that’ll make about 2 cups of juice. Then I pull up with the lemon (bwaaahhhh!!!)…ahem…I mean juice one fourth of a lemon (give or take…according to your ability to take the zestiness). I like mine to be a bit lemony so I add up to a half a lemon.
Next I blend together a few chunks of fresh pineapple with a little bit of water (about one fourth a cup). Lastly, I add my juiced carrot juice (which is super sweet), my juiced lemon and my pineapple puree, and I give it a good stir! Drop a few ice cubes in if ya like, and you’ve got yourself a cup that tastes straight from the island beaches of the Caribbean! Gon’ pop a straw in that bad boy along with a cute little umbrella for #allthefeels.
My second drink is a: Pomegranate Fusion Smoothie! For this drink I used my Vitamix, NO juicing involved. I popped in about 2 handfuls of frozen pomegranate kernels, a half of a banana for creaminess, a handful of chunks of frozen pineapple, some fresh mango chunks, and a cup or 2 of water. Blend it all up and garnish with frozen pomegranate kernels for a little culinary effect. Whalah! Super simple and delicious!
Summer drinks don’t have to be loaded with HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SUGAR! Blarghh! Our Father wants you on this Earth for a long time. In Psalm 91:16, the Word says, “With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
